Attended the hotel for a friends wedding ... It was beautiful, in a quiet country setting only 30 minutes by bus from the busy city of Dublin. Regular buses run from the city.
The house itself had a grand reception area which was decorated for christmas with a huge 9 ft christmas tree and log fire with big comfy couches. The staff were incredibly friendly couldn't do more to help their guests. Our room was in one of the court yard buildings it was a mini flat... beautiful bedroom overlooking the countryside, new looking bathroom with fantastic power shower, living area with fireplace and small kitchen attached. More than I expected for the price we paid.
The breakfast was one of the best I've had - buffet style with fresh food constantly being prepared and the selection of food was fantastic.
The wedding was fantastic in the main wedding suite, decoration was perfect and the food although produced on a mass scale was unbelievably amazing best wedding food i've ever eaten, I would definitely be back to stay at the hotel highly recommend it to anyone
  • What a gem!”
    5 of 5 starsReviewed 15 January 2013
It was my second time in this hotel and for sure it won't be the last one. We went there with my husband for a week end break and we really enjoyed it. This hotel is a gem hidden at the top of a hill surrounding the charmant little town of Enniskerry. As soon as you passed the entrance, you get into another world. This hotel is decorated in a way to relax and feel like home. We enjoyed sitting in one of the living rooms and make the most of the chimney fire. The staff was really friendly, smiling and helpful. The room we had was located at the first floor and was very spacious. Bed was very comfortable. During the day it was a little bit cold in the bedroom, but it was fine at night. The three courses meal we had at night was excellent, and what to say about the breakfast! a lot of choice to please anybody.
If you go there, do not hesitate to try the Rainforest Spa just down beside the hotel. The staff is very friendly and professionnal, and the choice of treatments you can have is very large to suit the needs of anybody.
To finish, this hotel is very well located, both Enniskerry and Powerscourt gardens can be easily reached by feet.
I definitely recommand this hotel to anybody who is looking for a relaxing and lovely break.
  • Nov 2012 Anniversary stay
We held our wedding reception in summerhill in november 2010 and as a surprise anniversary gift my husband booked a return night stay this year.
As with our wedding day, we fell in love with the place all over again. The staff were incredibly friendly with the night manager on duty even remembering us! This level of service for wedding parties is so rare and really makes this hotel special! Our dinner was amazing, we ate the beef and monkfish which were delicious. A special mention to the waiter who was most polite and unobtrusive despite us being the only guests in the dinning room at that time!
Some of the reviews on trip advisor mention areas which require attention in the hotel but I feel this is a country house and all the faults make the place all the more endearing. It is a beautiful house with wonderful open fires, cozy corners and stunning location!
Thanks summerhill for making our stay special and remindings us all over again why we chose to have our wedding here!
  • “A great find.”

Stayed for a long week-end to attend a family wedding. Amazing location and great staff. We had a family room which was probably due a bit of an update, decor wise, but clean and comfy. Wonderful, old fashioned(in a good way) service.
  • “Beautifull setting”
    5 of 5 starsReviewed 23 November 2012
We had a fantastic stay here for two nights 17th and 18th November. I was attending a wedding and it was just superb. The staff are really friendly, from the welcome at reception to our goodbye at check out they were great. It is a wonderful venue for a wedding, the atmosphere was just great and the food amazing. I needed to get a taxi to nearby Enniskerry but it was going to take 30 minutes, the receptionist told me she was going off duty in a few minutes and would give me a lift - where else would you get that kind of service? Thank you for a very enjoyable stay and look forward to seeing you again
  • “relaxing break”
    5 of 5 starsReviewed 22 November 2012
Stayed at the Summerhill House Hotel for a 1 night girlie spa break. Was a perfect break from beginning to end, the Spa was quaint and we both enjoyed the hot tub on the deck after our treatments. The food for dinner and breakfast was outstanding, best breakfast I had in a long time. The duty manager Emma is a real asset to the hotel, so friendly and welcoming. We will be back...
  • “Wedding Spectacular”
    5 of 5 starsReviewed 13 November 2012
The wedding of the year ? Great day from start to finish , What a wedding ceremony ! Excellent!! Spectacular ! The approach to the entrance to this hotel is hidden by lovely foliage and a sight never to forget when first glimpsed . Then greeted by a glass of wine and a riproaring fire welcomed the Bride and Groom and party to this beautiful hotel in a Gorgeous setting ( Adjacent to the famous Powerscourt estate no less) with specatular countryside views . The Meal was so that all tastes were provided for with no fuss or to do ! Waiters and waitresses galore > no waiting between courses and all delivered with professional courtesy. The dining room was magnificent and provided ample room to allow for a band and dancing until the early hours of the next morning, Drinks on the go and food provided if and when necessary. then up to a bedroom that had all the necessities at hand. Quiet and peace allowed for a lovely nights sleep,
  • Nov 2012 Relaxing Heaven in a picturesque setting
A beautiful Hotel in a beautiful countryside setting with stunning views. There is a beautiful Spa beside the Hotel and you can get fantastic packages to incorporate treatments and beautiful food at an amazing price and everything is top quality. The staff are friendly and helpful and Enniskerry Village is just a stones throw down the road where you will find some lovely shops and pubs.
  • Oct 2012 Perfect Wedding Venue
Had our wedding here in October 2012. Everything was made easy for us in the run up to the big day. When the day arrived, the staff could not do enough for us and our guests. From the pre dinner drinks right through the weekend everyone was well looked after. There were 4 weddings in a row day after day that week and it still felt like we were their first priority. The food was fantastic, and the portions were plenty. We got loads of great compliments from our guests on the venue. Special thanks to Edel and Orla who looked after us so well.
We'll be going back again for sure.
  • Oct 2012 The end of a wonderful Ireland vacation”
We spent our last 2 nights at Summerhill House and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Beautiful hotel and excellent staff who were very friendly and informative. Close to Powerscourt Gardens which is a must visit in my book. I would recommend this hotel to everyone I know.
  • Oct 2012 Perfect Couples Break
We would recommend The Summerhill to anyone who is looking for quality service, value for money and a homely intimate setting. The scenery is beautiful and there is lots of walking and bike trails. We had a warm greeting at reception by all the staff. The dinner service was impeccable, the manager Andrew made sure are needs where catered for at all times. The food was delicious but the service really stood out to us, freindly smiling and genuine at all times. We retired to the bar where again the waitress Orla really looked after our needs and paid close attention to detail so that she knew are preferences for the remainder of our stay. The staff really made the break easy, relaxing and carefree. Would highly recommend it.
  • Oct 2012 Our daughter's wedding was a wonderful success thanks to the staff of the Summerhill House Hotel
Our daughter's wedding was held on the Sunday of the October Bank holiday weekend in this hotel and we cannot thank the staff and the management of the hotel enough for the wonderful care and attention to detail and the really friendly staff to whom nothing was "too much trouble" which greatly added to the wonderful location with its roaring fires, excellent food, beautiful function room,so much so that we hardly noticed that the weather was wet and windy. The whole wedding experience was a great success with both sides of the families joining up and celebrating the occasion in an amazingly friendly atmostphere with a wonderful team of people to look after them. Very well to done to all the wonderful people at the Summerhill House Hotel you were first class.
  • Oct 2012 Lovely hotel, gorgeous food, beautiful scenery and atmosphere
Stayed here recently overnight with my boyfriend for a wedding reception. We both agreed that the venue was beautiful, very tastefully and elegantly decorated. It's a quaint, lovely little hotel set in what must be one of the most beautiful landscapes you can find in Ireland. Enniskerry village is a short walk away and is also nestled just in front of Powerscourt House and Gardens. Location-wise, you couldn't ask for a more picturesque hotel and grounds for a wedding reception.
You can see the management put a lot of effort in keeping the flavour of the original hotel itself intact. This place is full of character, perhaps that is much of where its charm lies. It isn't huge, but this works wonderfully to create a feeling of intimacy and a romantic atmosphere. The gardens and hotel facade itself worked beautifully for photos for the bride and groom, as well as the guests. The rooms are comfortable, if a little small and modestly furnished. The views from our window were spectacular. I can't fault the service received at the hotel, the staff were very attentive and polite. I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the main dinner turned out to be, and the buffet breakfast the following morning was thoroughly appreciated!
I would definitely recommend this place as a nice weekend break away, either with a special someone or with a few girlfriends down to the rainforest spa (which unfortunately I had no time to try, but that always leaves me next time! :)).
  • Oct 2012 Fantastic weekend away! Thanks mrs2be!!  I just want to give a little update on my weekend away! I won the voucher for my bridesmaid and I to spend a weekend all-inclusive stay in Summerhill House Hotel, Wicklow! My sister and I went down last Friday... Chauffeur driven by my lovely h2b! We spent the weekend chilling, chatting, giggling and bonding! We don't really get a chance to just sit around and chat so we spent hours doing it! Then on Saturday, my best friend who I hadn't seen in 10 months, came to meet us! It was brilliant!! The staff were amazing, the food was to die for (sorry diet!!) and we came back relaxed, much closer and have loads of memories!!  So thank you mrs2be for giving us the opportunity to spend such an amazing weekend together! Lisa

    “Very good value for money”
    4 of 5 starsReviewed 17 July 2012
This is an excellent 3 starts hotel. I went with 3 friends, so we booked 2 twin rooms. The rooms were very quite and spacious and there were two very confortable double beds in each room. We had lunch in the bar and the food was simple but very good and well presented, and not too pricy for being the bar of a hotel. Our package included dinner which was delicious too. Breakfast was excellent. Even if they served breakfast only until 10 am they kept bringing fresh food until the last minute. The buffet is very large and includes differnt kind of juices, mini patisserie, delicious sausages and bacon, smothie, and everything you might want to eat for breakfast. The package included also a back massage in the Rainforest Spa. I loved it. The masseur, Emily, was really professional. I also decided to treat myself to an extra treatement. It was only a quick manicure, but it was well made and very cheap. My friends who had an extra massage were very impressed too. If you go to the hotel and expect a fancy swimming pool, well don't because there is no swimming pool, but if you are looking for professional people to have a treatement done this is the place to go and it doesn't seem to pricy either. The only remark I have is maybe for the bathroom which was in need of rennovation.

Booked in for a night Spa break with my Mum and it was so relaxing that we added on an extra night. It is a beautiful old world hotel, with fantastic food - the breakfast deserves a special mention. An oasis of calm, with beautiful walks locally and at night the peace is amazing so we had wonderful sleep. Many thanks to all at Summer Hill House especially Mary on reception who made this a very special few days for us. We will be making a stay with you an annual event

first holiday the family had had in years. We booked self catering accommodation in the courtyard apartments of the Summer Hill House Hotel. The accommodation was luxurious and tending daily by maid service, fluffy towels abounded. The setting is beautiful, it helps if you like weddings as there is about one a day! The staff were so helpful particularly the reception staff who bent over backwards to help us. Breakfast was filling and very tasty and Enniskerry village which is a 15 minute walk away down a steep hill (25 back!) ischocolate box pretty. Powerscourt is a stones throw away and Bray, Glengariff and Dublin, easily accessible. Did I forget to mention the fantastic Spa in the grounds of the hotel with amazing views of the Wicklow Mountains. Highly recommended

We stayed here for 2 nights to attend a wedding in Dublin with the reception here. The set menu the night before the wedding was lovely and great value for money, the service was a little hit and miss and I feel there was a slight language barrier with some staff but our party was large and this may have meant that the hotel brought more staff in. The service during the wedding however superb and we were lavished with food and drink while the sun shone! The venue its self looked amazing and sipping cocktails on the lawn in the mid afternoon sunshine was a real delight. The party went on till 5am but we did not hear a thing over in our court yard suit and woke up to tuck into a hearty Irish breakfast the next day. A great hotel for a wedding and for visiting this beautiful part of Ireland!
  • April 2012 Friendly Ireland We have just returned from a long weekend in Ireland staying at The Sumerhill House Hotel in Enniskerry, a lovely location in the Wicklow Hills. The staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful and busy! Two very large weddings over the weekend.we had dinner on the first night and it was good, breakfast was a help yourself buffet which again was good with plenty of choice. On booking I had asked for a room with a view and definately worth it, the views were beautiful
  • April 2012 Absolute Bliss!! Stayed here April 2012 for mother and daughter spa deal. Fantastic value!! The spa was beautiful, very relaxing and the therapist Catherine was excellent..a very professional, friendly lady. The food was AMAZING breakfast and dinner and overall we were treated like royalty, very obliging, friendly and helpful hotel staff. Will definitely be back as compared to other spa breaks I have had this tops the lot a hundred times over! Thanks for an amazing stay Niamh :-)
  • February 2012 Excellent We booked for one night Monday Feb 6th. Although cold and crisp outside the hotel was lovely and warm and welcoming inside. Beautiful fresh flowers everywhere, although there had been a bridal fair the day before so I'm not sure what it's like normally. The hotel was somewhere between a stately home and a hotel. As there were few guests that night, the receptionist suggested that because of this, would we prefer our breakfast served to our room next morning? As there was a nice table and chairs in the large room, we were quite happy about this. The trolly arrived with a piping hot breakfast, exactly what we ordered and kept warm under beautiful heavy silver covers. We were phoned during the meal to ensure we had enough of everything. We had our evening meal in the Powerscourt Arms, a short walk away which was beautiful and the walk back up the hill to Summerhill ensured we had a good sleep in the lovely large, very comfortable bed. This hotel is just opposite Powerscourt Estate and a brisk walk in the morning was beautiful even though early Feb can be risky weatherwise. I think with the woods and gardens around this hotel, it must be gorgous in spring and summer. I would say here again and would recommend it.
  • February 2012 Great Wicklow wedding venue Stayed here in Feb 2012 for my brother's wedding. It's a really cosy place with lots of character in the old house. I stayed in a room in the annex to the back, and my experience has been that add-on areas like this can be thrown together and poorly maintained, but the rooms there were excellent. What I heard of the rooms in the main building was positive too. Staff very helpful and the food was excellent as well. Nice late weekend breakfast hours were appreciated. At 120 euros for a Saturday night I reckon it was pretty good value, easy to reach from Dublin and close to the Powerscourt estate and waterfall. Recommended.
  • February 2012 Wedding weekend We arrived at the Hotel on Saturday 18th February with the intention of having some lunch to sustain us until the meal in the evening. When we arrived there was tea/coffee, sandwiches, scones, a chocolate fountain and cocktails, all served by the staff with a smile. Nothing was too much for them to do. The meal itself was beautiful. We stayed the night and the room was perfect for us. Lovely breakfast next morning and while I'm not a fan of a Buffet breakfast, I like it served, it was just what was needed after the night before. Likewise for the soup and sandwiches we had for lunch on the Sunday. Overall a very plesant stay.

  • February 2012 wedding success we have just returned from our son's wedding and found the whole experience excellent. The hotel management and staff were very attentive to everyone's needs and we received warm praise from many of those attending both for the beautiful location and the comforts of the hotel We feel very happy to recommend the hotel as a worthwhile venue for a wedding reception
  • November 2011 Just back from an overnight spa package with my Mother, and had an AMAZING time! could not fault the hotel in any way! Food was lovely, dinner in the restaurant was so tasty and fresh!! Breakfast was plentiful....eggs of every sort...including pancakes!!! The barman/waiter (Tom I think) was so helpful and nothing was to much to ask for. same for the receptionist and manager. The Rainforest Spa was also fab, so helpful and well worth the money!! We'll defiantly be back soon! and I'll be recommending my friends to do the same!!!
  • October 2011 I am shocked at some of the reviews on tripadvisor. I had my wedding at this hotel and it was wonderful, so wonderful I came back a year later with my husband for his birthday and had some treatments down at the Spa which was lovely. We had a meal and a few drinks at the bar, there was a wedding on and it was lovely to see the guests all dressed up and it reminded us of our own wedding. I was at a wedding there this weekend and as always I was proud to say I had my own there. My husband and I stayed in the courtyard and the room was small but clean and lovely. The breakfast I had the next morning (my husband didnt make it) was up to standard and overall I had another wonderful stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend and would love to stay there again...this time my husband has to treat me!

  • September 2011 We stayed for two nights in the middle of September. The staff were very helpful and made us feel at home. Our room on the top floor was clean and quiet throughout our stay with wonderful views of the Wicklow mountains. Afternoon tea was included and was very welcome and tasty after a long drive. Breakfast was excellent with a good variety of self service dishes. The hot food was continually replenished so was always fresh. We appreciated the opportunity of having a lie-in and a late breakfast. It made our stay leisurely and relaxing.
This is not a modern hotel, which is why we chose it in the first place and it is in a lovely quiet situation well away from traffic noise. If you are looking for quiet old-world accommodation with a friendly welcoming atmosphere this is the place for you.
  • September 2011 I stayed here with my mother for two nights. I was expecting things to be very basic, but was pleasantly surprised as some early reviews I read were less than complimentary! Our room was lovely - though the bed covers were too heavy? Tea & coffee making facilities available. Afternoon tea was included in our deal which was very welcome after our journey.Cleaning up to standard. Staff absolutely lovely! We ate in the restaurant one of the nights and while my mother's meal was ok, mine was beautiful - and everything perfectly cooked and nicely presented. Yes, the building may be a little old and shabby - but that's what old country houses are - we expect it! The reception carpet had just been replaced so I believe that a real effort is being made to smarten the place up. Don't expect D4 grandeur, but if you ike a place that's full of charm, and on the doorstep of Wicklow's most beautiful visitor attractions (don't miss Powerscourt, the waterfall, Enniskerry village square, the various garden centres especially Kilquiad off the N11 and you are wthin an easy drive of dundrum Shopping Centre if that's what you're interested in) this hotel is a good choice.
  • February 2011 We stayed in the Summerhill Hotel for my husband's birthday. On walking into the hotel, there was a marvellous ambiance, a cosy open fire in the drawing room, candles lighting throughout the very traditional and beautifully decorated hotel. A hotel with wonderful old world charm. As part of our package, we had a glass of champagne with chocolates on arrival in the very welcoming reception area with very professional and friendly staff. Our bedroom was very tastefully decorated and so spacious and comfortable. We had dinner that evening in the restaurant - top class food, service second to none and a wonderful atmosphere. If you like a country house hotel, you really won't get better than this and amazing value for money. We look forward to staying there again.
  • February 2011 We thought the hotel was lovely very quaint & old fashioned but it is a old country house and this is what we expected. The staff were very nice & helpful, we stayed in the courtyard and our room was clean and modern if a little bit small, breakfast and dinner were lovely and service was good. We had a good massage and use of the thermal suite which was great.
  • February 2011 We visited Summerhill house last weekend after hearing about the Prudence offer.
It's only 40 minutes from Dublin, which appealed to us on this occasion. It was very quiet when we arrived and we were given our room there and then. The room was nice, with a four poster bed. We'd booked in for massages that evening in the Rainforest Day Spa, which were lovely, and then we headed in for our dinner. We had a lovely three course meal over a bottle of wine. The food was delicious and staff were really nice. The bar was quiet, but I suppose thats just the time of year. We stayed for an extra night for just 50 Euro each, which was well worth it, it included breakfast and dinner. We will return to Summerhill House soon, and I will be back with the girls, its a great place for a nice girly weekend.
  • December 2010 My friend and I booked a mid-week break at the Summerhill Hotel. We arrived for breakfast on day one, then went over to the spa on the grounds of the hotel for some pampering. There is an outdoor hot tub with stunning views over the Wicklow hillsides. Later on we had a delicious afternoon tea served by a roaring fire. The staff were all very attentive and friendly during our stay. The hotel is really well located as it is only a short drive from Dublin city yet the rural setting means you feel like you're really getting away. The Powerscourt waterfall and charming Enniskerry village are both within walking distance. Dinner was delicious and the rooms were really comfortable and spacious. We slept like logs in the soft beds. The breakfast buffet was full of fresh fruit, cereals and cheeses, etc., and we also ordered pancakes and french toast which were delicious and plentiful. The hotel is charming and welcoming, with open fireplaces and is traditionally decorated. I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway, we were very well looked after throughout our stay and I am already planning a return trip! The package we booked from the hotel website was also excellent value.

My wife used the Spa and she was very happy with the treatments. We were delighted with the friendliness of the staff and extremely satisfied with the overall service. Highly recommended.
